Though the two species are not closely related, the American Robin is named after the European Robin due to the male's bright red chest. They have a brown back and a reddish-orange breast. The bill is mainly yellow with a darker tip. The female tends to be more dull than the male.
Bird-predators of robins include crows, grackles, owls, hawks, falcons, blue jays, and magpies. Other predators of robins include cats, dogs, raccoons, squirrels, snakes and many other animals.
